Our Founder

 The Darryl Reed Foundation's primary activity is providing mentorship, violence prevention, life skills education, and positive role modeling for youth and young adults. The purpose of this program is to reduce youth violence, encourage positive decision-making, promote entrepreneurship, and help young people develop leadership and life skills that improve their opportunities for success. The Foundation's Executive Director and volunteers conduct motivational speaking engagements, school assemblies, group discussions, and one-on-one mentoring throughout the year. The Foundation also serves as a community mediator for youth ages 13–17 when requested by nonprofit organizations, schools, community leaders, and families. In addition, the Foundation has partnered with Elite School in Vallejo, California, where Foundation volunteers periodically teach entrepreneurship and financial literacy throughout the school year. These activities began shortly after the Foundation was established and continue throughout each year. Activities are conducted primarily in Oakland and other San Francisco Bay Area communities when the Foundation is called upon.

 The Foundation organizes and participates in community entertainment and cultural events that promote violence prevention, strengthen community relationships, and increase public awareness of the Foundation's charitable mission. These events provide opportunities for community members, business leaders, elected officials, nonprofit organizations, and multiple generations to come together in a positive environment that promotes unity, mentorship, and community engagement. Examples include the Foundation's Annual White Party and Black Renaissance Ball, which raise awareness of the Foundation's mission while encouraging community involvement and support for youth-focused programming. Recent events include the Black Renaissance Ball (December 2, 2023), the 4th Annual White Party (August 27, 2023), and the 5th Annual White Party at the Oakland Museum (September 22, 2024). These events have been conducted annually for several years and will continue as funding and volunteer support permit. Activities are held throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and are organized and staffed by the Foundation's Executive Director and volunteers, with assistance from community partners, donors, and local leaders.

 The Foundation conducts charitable giving programs that provide toys, school supplies, and other basic necessities to children and families experiencing financial hardship. These activities are intended to improve the well-being of underserved youth, strengthen community relationships, and encourage positive community engagement throughout the year. The Foundation has organized an annual toy giveaway each December with Youth Uprising since 2017 and provides financial support for school supplies and educational resources when funding is available. Recent activities include the Annual Christmas Toy Giveaway with Youth Uprising since 2017 and a $5,000 donation to Elite School in Vallejo for school supplies in December 2025. These activities are conducted annually throughout the San Francisco Bay Area by the Foundation's Executive Director, volunteers, community partners, and donors.
